The Department of English invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor to teach ENGLISH/ UPEI 1010: ACADEMIC WRITING in the Fall 2026 term.
Two sections are available (M &W 2:30-3:45 pm.; T & Th 2:30-3:45 p.m.).
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
ENGLISH /UPEI 1010: Academic Writing introduces UPEI students to the primary threshold concepts and foundational writing processes and forms that characterize written communication in academic work and educated discourse in all major fields of academic inquiry.
The course emphasizes writing as a means (a) to enhance intellectual discovery and thoughtful reflection, and (b) to demonstrate and communicate learning in a variety of rhetorical situations. Its integrated curriculum promotes sequenced learning and communication skills practice while focusing on close reading of texts, critical thinking, self-awareness and perspective-taking, speaking and listening, discerning analysis, strategies for persuasive argumentation and use of evidence, research ethics and representation, and rhetorically informed approaches to communicating effectively for diverse audiences, purposes, and contexts. Its strict limitation on class size allows for discussion, interactive learning, peer review, revision, individual attention, and independent and collaborative learning experiences.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as clear evidence of effective teaching in first-year university writing studies. Minimum qualifications for eligible candidates are a Master’s degree in English. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a PhD in English.
