Casual Facility Attendant
Casual Position – Evenings, Late Nights, Weekends, and Occasional Daytime Shifts
Reporting to: Director of Community Services
Scheduling and direction provided by the Community Services Coordinator.
The Facility Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment primarily at Keyera Place, which includes the Community Centre, Fitness Centre, and Arena and supports other municipal recreation spaces, including parks, playgrounds, and the Outdoor Aquatic Centre.
This role includes custodial duties, general maintenance, support for programs and events, and front desk customer service. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and late-night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Custodial Duties
- Perform regular cleaning and upkeep of the Community Centre and Fitness Centre, including common areas, floors, windows, washrooms, and changerooms.
- Ensure facilities are clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for public use.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with general facility upkeep and minor maintenance tasks as required.
- Provide front desk support, including customer service, processing program registrations, facility bookings and memberships, handling payments, and responding to general inquiries.
- Support the daily operation of recreation facilities by assisting users, renters, and program participants in a professional and welcoming manner.
Events, Rentals & Program Support
- Assist with facility event rentals, including setup, takedown, signage placement, equipment arrangement, and addressing renter needs during bookings.
- Support Town-run programs and special events, including public-facing seasonal activities and recreation programs.
- Assist with program setup, teardown, and participant engagement during delivery.
- Facilitate or lead programs for children, youth, adults, and seniors as needed with appropriate training or guidance.
Additional Recreation & Facility Support
- Support maintenance and appearance of parks, playgrounds, and public spaces.
- Perform duties such as garbage collection, watering flowers, weeding garden beds, and general grounds upkeep.
- Occasionally assist at the Arena, Aquatic Centre, and other recreation facilities as needed.
- Operate equipment and machinery including Ice Resurfacer (Zamboni) in accordance with training and Town safety procedures.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Facility Foreman or Director of Community Services.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 education with the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to perform physical labour, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Standard First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and late-night shifts (e.g., 2–3 a.m.) as required.
Ideal Candidate
- 1–2 years of experience in custodial work, facility maintenance, or event operations.
- Experience operating facility equipment; ice resurfacer (Zamboni) experience or willingness to obtain training is considered a strong asset.
- Strong customer service skills with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
