About the Role
North Star Contracting is seeking experienced Asphalt Rakers to join our growing paving crew. In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality asphalt surfaces for municipal roads, commercial sites, and civil construction projects across the Calgary region.
Key Responsibilities
- Rake and finish hot mix asphalt to proper grade, slope, and smoothness
- Work closely with the asphalt paver operator and roller operators to ensure high-quality pavement
- Maintain consistent material flow and proper joint construction
- Assist with the setup and cleanup of paving operations
- Perform shoveling, luting, and handwork as required
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies on site
- Help maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
Requirements
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience as an Asphalt Raker (preferred)
- Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and best practices
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to work in extreme heat up to and could exceed 64 degrees Celsius.
- Physically fit and able to perform heavy manual labour
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Safety tickets considered an asset (CSTS, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance)
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends during peak paving season
