At Vision, the well-being of our residents and the satisfaction of our team are our top priorities. We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recreation Facilitator to join our team on a temporary contract basis.
The Recreation Facilitator performs duties as delegated by the Program Services Manager and provides input into the organization of programs. Leads both group and individual programs. Participates in the planning and evaluation of the Recreation/leisure programs as an integral part of the Program Service Team.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with a team of peers to plan, organize, implement and evaluate recreation and leisure programs which are designed to meet the needs of the homes resident population.
- Will promote and lead recreation/leisure programs as set out on a monthly calendar.
- Works evenings and weekends.
- Keeps accurate documentation of resident attendance, participation levels and goals progress using the homes tools including quarterly reports, progress notes, attendance/behaviour records and PCC/MDS computer based care planning.
- Works with volunteers in programs as required including delegation and supervision.
- Maintains supplies and equipment.
- Maintains effective communication with the Program Services Manager as well as the total care team.
- Keep activity areas neat and free from harmful objects/substances.
- Makes posters, announcements, invitations and other communication tools to advertise/inform of special occasions, special events, programs and community events.
- Decorates the home seasonally or as required.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Drives the home bus for recreational outings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Extensive walking, standing, squatting, bending as related to residents needs.
- Some resident lifting required. Some heavy lifting, climbing ladders, especially when decorating.
- Stress resulting from constant communication with staff, residents and their family members.
- Occasionally on call for incidents arising after work.
- Required to work evenings and weekends.
- Limited working area for large groups and resulted stress from background noise and frequent interruptions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
- Skills in several recreational and leadership programs including fitness, games, crafts, music, dance, socialization, gardening and drama.
- Behavioural Support
- Montessori Certificate
- Class “F” License or willingness to achieve is mandatory.
- Should possess the following personality traits: flexibility, spontaneity and empathy. Should be cheerful and of an outgoing nature
- Must have the ability to detect physical and emotional changes in residents, i.e. pain, fatigue, loss of balance and irritability.
- Must have leadership skills and be a team player
- Effective communication skills required in English, both oral and written
- Some knowledge of music highly desirable
- Must possess good time management skills
- Willingness to participate in pharmacology and food handling courses
12-18 Month Contract position. Working evenings with an odd day shift and every other weekend.
