We have one permanent full-time position available for an assistant editor that offers 75 hours bi-weekly. CFMWS is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our employees and their families.

Wage Range: $20.40 - $24.17 per hour (Based on previous experience)

Commuting allowance may also be available for those who qualify.

Start Date: August 4, 2026, or as soon as possible.

Under the supervision of the Canadian Armed Forces News Manager, the assistant editor helps in the preparation of news articles, features, photography, video, social media, advertisements for publication, and proof reads material. They write, produce, ensure stories/photos meet quality content and deadline standards and submit them for final approval. CFB Shilo Stag has been in publication more than 80 years and is one of numerous CAF Newspaper Association publications across the country supporting troops, families, Veterans and surrounding communities through Canadian Forces Moral and Welfare Services.
Qualifications
Education, Certificates and Licences:
-
College diploma or certificate in journalism, communications, broadcast, marketing, or a related field with some education and/or experience in the media industry.

Knowledge:
-
of publishing guidelines including marketing, design and news production principals
-
of various types of advertising
-
of design, photo editing and publishing software
-
of Canadian Press (CP) style
Experience in:
-
office administration
-
research, interviewing and writing articles following journalism guidelines
-
Photography
-
Wordpress or online news platforms
Competencies:
-
Client focus, organizational knowledge or a willingness to learn it, communication, innovations, team work and leadership
Required Security Screening:
