Summary
We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee our equipment maintenance operations at our facility in. This role is vital in ensuring our fleet and equipment remain in optimal condition, supporting our company's mission of reliable service and safety. This position reports to the Operations Manager and President of the Company.
Professional Carriers currently owns and operates 35 highway tractors and 48 triaxle reefer trailers from coast to coast in Canada. We have three on-site mechanics that do the majority of fleet service and repairs.
The purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day maintenance and repairs of the fleet in an efficient, safe, accurate and cost-effective manner and respond to after-hour breakdown situations by arranging road service when and where needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the parts and tire inventory to ensure we have commonly used parts on hand for service and repair.
- Track and arrange all scheduled maintenance for fleet using AXON operating system.
- Provide dispatch with a schedule of upcoming services so that they can plan routes accordingly, communicate same to drivers so they can plan their routes.
- Respond to driver issues regarding service and repair issues and arrange work to be done accordingly.
- Locate and nurture relationships with outside vendors that provide parts and services to Professional Carriers including roadside emergency service providers.
- Oversee and manage the mechanics on site to ensure the daily tasks and expectations are laid out in advance but ensure you are still responsive enough to change plans quickly to accommodate various changes throughout the day.
- Assist dispatch in troubleshooting issues on the road to determine if emergency repairs are needed or can wait until a scheduled service appointment.
- Monitor driver call in requests for repairs and prioritize them and ensure they are completed as they are in the yard.
- On occasion, you may be required to assist mechanics with difficult tasks or troubleshooting as well as installing cameras and ELDs.
- Issue POs for repairs to vendors as needed.
- Ensure warranty claims are filed as needed and core credits are obtained.
- Ensure office, shop and yard facilities are maintained and in working order.
Required Skills
- Above average computer skills including excel and email.
- Should have a very well-rounded knowledge of heavy duty truck and trailer mechanics.
- A good understanding of Carrier and Thermo King reefer units would be an asset.
- Class 1 license would be an asset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
This is a Monday - Friday 8am-5pm (1 hour lunch) position with on call emergency breakdown responsibilities after hours. A phone and separate number is provided for this. This would be a perfect position for a mechanic looking to get off the floor with only light mechanical duties required.
