What We Do
There has never been a more exciting time to be at WAHA. We are an integrated health system providing the full continuum of care to the six communities of the western James Bay coast with over 500 employees, physicians, and partners in care. Who You Are
- Experience in assessment of clients with mental health and substance use concerns
- Direct service experience in delivery of mental health services
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Working knowledge of Mental Health Act and related legislation, mental health assessments, general counselling principles and interview techniques, crisis intervention, concurrent disorders, motivational interviewing, de-escalation techniques, and community resources and social services utilization.
- Experience working with Indigenous Populations an asset
What You’ll Do
- Provide culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, culturally safe, recovery-oriented, and client-centred mental health and addictions services to individuals, families, and communities within WAHA’s catchment area
- Provide counselling and therapeutic interventions specific to client needs using evidence-based and best practice approaches
- Assess and respond to clients presenting with suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, psychosis, substance use concerns, emotional dysregulation, crisis situations, and other acute mental health presentations
- Provide crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation, safety planning, and supportive counselling for individuals experiencing situational or psychiatric crises
- Liaise and collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, addictions workers, case managers, community agencies, Indigenous organizations, and other interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated client care
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, case conferences, team meetings, huddles, and collaborative care approaches with internal and external partners
- Promote mental health awareness, stigma reduction, wellness initiatives, and community education activities across the region
- Provide outreach services and mental health support within community settings, homes, schools, partner agencies, and coastal sites as required
- Provide culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive services that recognize the unique histories, traditions, strengths, and experiences of Indigenous peoples and northern communities
- Incorporate culturally relevant and holistic approaches into mental health and addictions care where appropriate
- Identify learning needs and participate in ongoing professional development, conferences, workshops, seminars, certifications, and training opportunities
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation activities, audits, accreditation processes, and service reviews
- Maintain concise, accurate, and appropriate clinical documentation, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, correspondence, and discharge summaries in Practice Solutions Suite and/or Medi-Tech within 24-48 hours following client interactions
What You Bring
- Diploma in social service work or a related field required
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field preferred
- Registered in good standing with the College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, College of Nurses of Ontario, or a related regulatory body
- 1-3 years of recent related experience in a crisis or emergency mental health setting or three years of recent related experience in acute psychiatry, outpatient psychiatry or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Valid G or G2 License
- Ability to communicate in the local native Cree language is an asset

Salary: $90,090.00 - $97,675.50
