Raise is currently hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC and Fire Protection on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer in this role will specialize in HVAC and Fire Protection systems. The successful candidate will apply advanced engineering knowledge to deliver design, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium-complexity generating station projects and operations. This role requires a blend of high-level engineering oversight and hands-on design utilizing CADD applications. You will ensure all work is completed safely, with high quality, within budget, and on time, while providing mentorship to junior engineering professionals.
Responsibilities
- Engineering & Project Delivery

Develop safe, reliable mechanical engineering solutions for station mechanical systems, including detailed HVAC and Fire Protection designs. Perform necessary engineering calculations and interpret complex technical specifications.

Resolve highly technical, non-standard, and unusual design or field engineering problems by conducting independent studies, analysis, and exercising sound engineering judgment.

Assist project and operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and timeline objectives. This includes proposing plan adjustments, estimating costs, reviewing contractor deliverables, preparing progress reports, and coordinating schedules.

Participate in ’s engineering practice by contributing to the development of technical standards. Provide guidance, advice, and technical mentorship to develop future capability within the engineering team.

Drafting, Modeling & Documentation

Support the creation, revision, and management of 2D and 3D engineering drawings associated with generating station mechanical systems.

Utilize drawings for site preparations, facility layouts, and the integration of mechanical systems with electrical infrastructure, including equipment assemblies and component details.

Manage and track drawing packages using ’s computerized drawing records management system, ensuring strict adherence to CADD standards.
Qualifications
-
8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, specifically focused on HVAC and Fire Protection systems.

Proven experience drafting and designing mechanical systems for generating stations, utilities, or heavily regulated heavy-industrial environments.

Expert Proficiency: AutoCAD.

Experience with Standard industry mechanical design/analysis software, CAD systems, and formal drawing standards.

Experience with Diesel Genset specification and design. (is an asset for this role)

Experience utilizing Revit and/or Autodesk Inventor for 3D modeling and parametric design. (is an asset for this role)

Intermediate proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Exceptional organizational skills with a proven track record of managing competing priorities on medium-complexity projects.

Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate seamlessly within multidisciplinary team environments and liaise effectively with external contractors.

Intermediate to advanced English communication skills (both written and spoken) suitable for a professional engineering environment.

Valid Class 5 driver's license in good standing

Education and Certifications

P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Successful completion of, or active progress toward, the introductory BC Hydro Electrical System course is highly desirable.
Additional Information
- Candidates in this role will be working a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in the office), (Can shift to 2 days a week after 3 months) ability to travel within BC to various stations for field / site visits as required. Once every 2 months for a duration of 1 - 2 days.
