Canada West Veterinary Specialists is an exciting multi-disciplinary specialty referral practice with a dedicated 24-hour ERCC service. We hold a unique designation as one of the only verified Veterinary Trauma Centers in Western Canada, designated per the Veterinary Committee on Trauma (VetCOT). We have 7 specialty departments, including Oncology, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, and Internal Medicine, with added services including Rehabilitation Therapy and an in-house lab.

POSITION SUMMARY
Delivers educational activities to staff by teaching, facilitating groups, mentoring, and conducting formal presentations, demonstrations, and lectures. In collaboration with members of the interprofessional team, develops, implements, and revises orientation and professional development programs for staff based on pre-identified learning needs, health outcomes, regional priorities, current theory/research, and education program effectiveness to ensure that the assigned professional practice initiative's objectives are met. Role models professional practice to staff and students based on the application of theories, concepts, and principles to promote quality practice environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement orientation and professional development programs for staff (technicians and assistants) by methods such as completing learning needs assessments of an individual trainee and/or clinical area and determining educational requirements. Revises education programs based on pre-identified learning needs, patient/client outcomes, standards of practice, and introduction of new skills/procedures. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs to ensure educational program objectives are met and to determine opportunities for quality improvement
- In collaboration with the interprofessional team, deliver educational activities to staff by methods such as teaching, facilitating groups, mentoring, and conducting formal presentations, demonstrations, and lectures. Arranges sessions in collaboration with staff to determine time, frequency, and duration to ensure effective use of resources. Maintains records and schedules staff into sessions as appropriate
- Role models best practice, clinical concepts, and skills to staff/student. Provides information based on application of theories, concepts, and principles reflective of Professional Practice approaches and educator competencies. Supports excellence in patient care
- Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities related to the assigned initiatives by evaluating the effect of the education programs and generating recommendations for alternative educational approaches
- In collaboration with the education team, reviews selected policies, procedures, and protocols; provides feedback and recommendations for evidence-based revisions
- Facilitates the resolution of practice concerns and advocates for the goals and objectives of the assigned initiative including reviewing relevant client care documentation with the intent to promote improvements to patient and family-centered care and efficient and safe practice.
- Consult with internal and external partners guided by evidence to ensure educational content is evidence-based and reflects current best practices
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited program for Veterinary Technologists
- Three years of recent related experience, including at least one year of training and educational program development experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

HOURS OF WORK
- 4, 10-hour shifts per week
- As we are a 24/7 facility, flexibility in adjustment of work hours may be required to accommodate training needs including the occasional evening or weekend.
