About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Clinic Technician to join our busy and growing practice. This role is ideal for someone with previous optometry or ophthalmology experience who enjoys working directly with patients, operating advanced diagnostic equipment, and contributing to a positive patient experience.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, technically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Collect and accurately document patient medical histories
Perform diagnostic and pre-testing procedures as directed by the Optometrists
Capture and record diagnostic images and measurements using specialized equipment
Prepare, sanitize, and maintain examination rooms and testing areas
Schedule appointments and assist with administrative duties as needed
Support patient flow throughout the clinic and ensure a positive patient experience
Maintain, clean, troubleshoot, and perform basic upkeep of clinical instruments
Ensure patient records are handled with confidentiality and discretion
Work collaboratively with doctors and team members to provide exceptional care

Required Experience & Equipment Knowledge

Candidates should have hands-on experience with the following:

TOPCON Maestro 2 (OCT)
TOPCON TRK-2P (Autorefractor / 4-in-1)
OPTOS Optomap Monaco (preferred) or OPTOS Optomap Daytona
ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer II (Visual Fields)

Preferred

TOPCON MYAH
iCare Tonometer
VisualEyes EMR

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should have a strong understanding of:

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Myopia and myopia management
Intraocular Pressure (IOP)
Diagnostic imaging and retinal health assessments
The functions of the TOPCON TRK-2P, including:
Autorefraction
Keratometry
Tonometry
Pachymetry
Visual Field testing, including glaucoma screening
Optomap imaging, including Red & Green (R&G) and Multimode imaging

Experience with line scans, raster scans, optic nerve head scans, advanced visual field protocols (24-2, 30-2), and eyelid testing is considered a strong asset.

Qualifications

Previous experience in an Optometry or Ophthalmology clinic
Strong understanding of patient confidentiality and medical record management
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities
Positive attitude and strong team mentality

Assets

TOPCON University training or workshops
Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant (CCOA) designation

Schedule

Full-time hours
Monday to Wednesday evenings (until 7:00 PM)
Saturday availability required
Flexible days off (Thursday and/or Friday)

Job Description

The Prestester/Clinic Technician/Receptionist is responsible for patient care and testing prior to the patient seeing the doctor. Duties may include greeting the patients, collecting medical and eye health history, performing testing and imaging required by the doctor for the eye exam, and setting the patient up in the doctor's exam room.

The receptionist duties inclue coordinating the daily administration of doctors, staff, visitors and patients in the clinic. This includes scheduling appointments, referrals, answering the phone, patient inquiries and triaging patient emergencies. Duties may also include billing, invoicing, creating reports and opening and closing of the clinic.

Responsibilities

You may be cross trained in other functions based on the needs of the Clinic
Clear understanding of medical imaging equipment and how to use in daily clinical care
Open/close exam rooms at beginning and end of the day, tidy and sanitize exam rooms between patients – replenish supplies as needed throughout the day (Kleenex, towel, toys, drops, fluorescein)
Empty garbage can
Cover exam equipment, change name plates and business cards for next day
Shut down equipment
Reception duties as required

You Must Have:

Listen to your patient’s needs meeting their expectations
You are a detail-oriented, technically inclined individual
Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, confident working with people
Proven experience as a Prestester or equivalent experience in an Optometrist clinic

You'll Stand Out With:

Visual Field experience
Familiarity with Optos and Topcon Instruments
Myah training
Proficiancy with Visual Eyes

Priority given to candidates who have Ophthalmology experience

Dress Code Requirements

During work hours, you are expected to wear the uniform stipulated by the Clinic.
