Role Summary
The Sales Associate – Retail Butcher Shop Accounts is a developing sales role focused on supporting and growing Legends Haul’s relationships with independent butcher shops, specialty meat retailers and other relevant retail accounts.
This position is specifically intended for someone coming from a retail butcher shop or dedicated retail meat department who has strong protein knowledge and meaningful experience working directly with customers.
The successful candidate will understand more than how to cut and prepare meat. They will know how to speak with customers, understand their needs, recommend appropriate products and turn strong customer service into sales.
This is an opportunity for an experienced, customer-facing retail butcher to take their industry knowledge and build a professional sales career.
The Sales Associate will receive hands-on training in Legends Haul’s products, operations, systems, account management and business-development practices. The role will gradually assume responsibility for an assigned customer base and territory.
The position is based from the East Vancouver office and will regularly require travel throughout the Lower Mainland to visit customers, develop relationships and pursue new business.
This is not simply an order-taking position. The Sales Associate will be expected to understand each customer’s business, identify opportunities, recommend appropriate products and help butcher shop customers improve their product offering and grow their sales.
You Are This Person
You currently work—or have recently worked—in a retail butcher shop or dedicated retail meat department, where you have developed an in-depth, practical understanding of meat and centre-of-the-plate proteins.
You understand different cuts, grades, specifications, applications and quality levels, and you can confidently explain those differences to customers. You know how to ask the right questions, understand what a customer is trying to accomplish and recommend the appropriate product.
Most importantly, your experience has been directly customer-facing. You have spent meaningful time working at the counter, helping customers make purchasing decisions, recommending products, explaining preparation methods and building relationships with regular customers.
You have not worked exclusively behind the scenes cutting or preparing meat.
You are comfortable selling. You recognize opportunities to recommend additional products, introduce customers to something new and increase the value of a purchase without making the interaction feel forced or transactional.
You understand that great selling begins with listening, credible product knowledge and genuine customer service.
You are clean, polished and presentable, with high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance appropriate for both a food environment and a customer-facing sales role. You communicate clearly, confidently and professionally and can represent Legends Haul well when meeting with customers.
You are articulate, personable and comfortable starting conversations with new people. You can speak credibly with butcher shop owners, meat managers and experienced industry professionals because you understand their products, customers and day-to-day realities.
You are also hungry to grow.
You have built a strong foundation in the retail butcher environment and are now ready to turn that knowledge into a professional sales career. You want more responsibility, greater earning potential and the opportunity to develop your own customer relationships and territory.
You understand that moving into sales will require you to learn new systems, develop strong organizational habits, follow up consistently and become accountable for measurable results. You are coachable, motivated and prepared to put in the work required to succeed.
