Housing and System Navigator, Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario. $25.00 per hour, 5 days a week.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides a range of services and programs to criminalized women, 2 Spirit, trans and gender diverse individuals both in the community and at the Correctional Centre. We currently have one opening for 5 day a week, contract (with possibility for extension) as a System Navigator to assist clients secure and maintain housing, to access various health, social and support services that will help them successfully integrate into the community. The System Navigator will provide a gendered, culturally sensitive and trauma informed approach to reduce the homelessness of criminalized women, 2 Spirit, trans and gender diverse individuals.
Responsibilities:
· Be familiar with housing options in the public and private sector along with social, health and other supportive services.
· Develop partnerships with landlords and other service providers to ensure there is a coordinated and holistic response to support the needs of clients.
· Create and maintain an up-to-date data-base of available housing options and other useful referral resources.
· Provide pre and post discharge-planning services for clients to ensure a seamless transition into safe and affordable housing.
· Use a trauma-informed approach, interview clients and assist them to navigate access to clinical, health, peer support and treatment services through sensitive and compassionate case management.
· Provide referrals to traditional or culturally sensitive healing, recreational and spiritual programs for clients and their children.
· Determine what income supports the client may need, make appropriate referrals and assist in completing applications and forms if necessary.
· Refer client to employment services, training and education programs and resume writing services.
· Provide transportation assistance and accompaniment to ensure clients are able to attend appointments when necessary.
· Collect data to demonstrate accountability, support decision-making and develop an understanding of the homelessness situation in Thunder Bay.

Qualifications:
· University degree or College diploma,(preferred but not a requirement) in social work, social services, harm reduction and substance use program, and preference will be given to PWLE of incarceration or substance use.
· Knowledge of housing programs and community-based resources.
· Skillful at conducting non-intrusive and sensitive interviews and familiarity with a trauma informed approach to case management.
· Excellent writing and organizational skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and without supervision.
· Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
· Knowledge of the criminal justice system and homelessness in Thunder Bay.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds.
· Experience working with and understanding of the context in which women become marginalized and criminalized.
· Familiarity with a non-profit organization
· Knowledge pertaining to residential tenancies, social assistance and probation and parole would be an asset.
· Valid Ontario Driver’s License and use of a car an asset.
