Job Overview
Ascendant is a global provider of international business to business payment solutions. Ascendant Capital Inc., the parent company, is based in Canada with operations in US and UK. We are seeking a Relationship Management Associate to support the day-to-day management of client relationships and payment operations within our international payments platform. This role sits at the intersection of client experience, payment execution, and operational excellence, ensuring seamless processing of cross-border payments while delivering a high standard of service to our clients.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, client-focused, self-starter, and comfortable navigating the complexities of global payment systems, FX transactions, and regulatory requirements. This role is based out of downtown Toronto and is required to be in office 4 days a week.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (including but are not limited to):

Client Relationship Management

Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing day-to-day inquiries and payment-related requests
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including large corporate accounts
Partner with senior FX account managers to support client growth, onboarding, and implementation of new accounts
Proactively communicate payment statuses, issues, and resolution timelines to clients

Payment Operations & Execution

Monitor payment activity to ensure timely and accurate execution
Validate payment details, including beneficiary information, routing instructions, and regulatory data requirements
Investigate and resolve payment exceptions, returns, and rejections in coordination with banking partners

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with Operations, Treasury, Compliance, and Product teams to support payment processing and issue resolution
Work with banking partners and vendors to resolve operational issues and improve payment outcomes
Provide feedback to Product and Engineering teams to enhance system functionality and client experience

Compliance & Risk Management

Support compliance reviews, client renewals, and documentation requirements

Process Improvement & Reporting

Identify trends in payment issues and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce errors
Maintain accurate documentation of workflows, procedures, and client-specific requirements

Administrative & Operational Support

Provide operational support for client accounts, including account setup, maintenance, and updates
Manage client credit and funding coordination in partnership with Operations and Treasury teams
Support internal reporting and documentation needs related to client and payment activity

What Success Looks Like:

Client inquiries and challenges are resolved promptly with clear communication
Strong relationships are built with both clients and internal stakeholders
Operational issues are identified early and addressed proactively
Continuous improvements are made to enhance the client and payment experience

Qualifications & Requirements:

Post-Secondary education in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience managing or supporting client relationships, including handling inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining a high standard of service
Basic understanding of payment processes (e.g., wire transfers, cross-border payments) or willingness to learn quickly on the job
Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle repetitive, process-driven tasks with accuracy
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook)
Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and ability to take initiative in a team-oriented environment
Legally authorized to work in Canada
