Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Finance Business Intelligence and Innovation team is seeking Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Performance Analyst. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering business intelligence, reporting, automation, and data-driven solutions that support Finance teams across the organization. The role acts as a trusted advisor to Finance stakeholders by providing dependable insights, automating manual processes, improving reporting efficiency, advancing the adoption of BI, Automation, and AI capabilities and drive continuous improvement across the Finance Division
Term length: 9 months contract
What will I be doing?
Develop reporting dashboards and initiate proactive analysis to identify trends and data that support recommendations and innovations to improve performance across Metrolinx divisions and achieve strategic objectives.
Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and supporting metrics to be used to track performance.
Develop reporting requirements with business unit subject matter experts and utilize a standardized approach to performance reporting.
- Build, optimize, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines to support dashboard development.
- Utilizing Python and SQL for data transformation, modeling, and optimization, and leveraging GitHub for version control and collaboration.
- Build scripts/bots for repetitive tasks: journal entry checks.
- Liaise with business unit stakeholders to understand their needs for current and future reporting capabilities; on design functionality and interpret requirements, design, and support reporting for all internal and external customers.
- Provide business units and other internal and external customers with insights into KPIs and supporting metrics.
- Define and implement data reporting and analysis best practices (e.g. data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation).
- Review, clean, and validate data and data sources to ensure accuracy and reliability of reporting outputs.
- Participate in periodic reviews of BI tools and reports with Executive Leadership team.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Expertise with Business Intelligence tools Power BI (preferred), Tableau etc.
- Expertise with Python, SQL, GitHub, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Experience with Databricks is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience developing BI dashboards/reports using complex datasets.
- Analysis and problem-solving skills to analyze trends, performance, and develop actionable recommendations to support business units’ ability to make informed business decisions that facilitate performance improvement and achieving strategic objectives.
- Data collection/management techniques (ETL) and the development/interpretation of data to determine requirements, retrieve, analyze and deliver insights and recommendations.
- Data quality assurance processes, methodology and tools, quality assurance testing and implementation methods and practices to ensure the integrity of data.
- Strong partnership building, relationship management, and collaboration skills to work effectively with business units and stakeholders to collect data and resolve data quality issues.
- Creativity to determine the format of dashboards and to translate a range of diverse data/information into actionable results that support internal and external requirements.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to analyze information, draft reports, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across various business units.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: rail/transit operations, asset management and operational performance monitoring, asset information systems, financial systems.
