About the Position
The Installation Tooling Designer is responsible for outlining tooling concepts and generating component models, prints and assemblies. This position will require collaboration with other employees and departments, where proficient interpersonal and communication skills will be necessary. The Installation Tooling Designer requires a strong foundation in stamping, tooling and mechanical principles.
Wage Transparency: The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
General Responsibilities
- Work with customers and suppliers to ensure projects are on time.
- Assist in setting strategic long and short-term departmental goals and evaluate outcomes.
- Provide leadership and guidance, and ensuring the department meets its goals and objectives.
- Identify and implement initiatives for continuous quality improvement in safety, efficiency, product development, tooling, and process innovation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review projects with customer from concept to execution.
- Collaborate with team members to problem solve and improve on past designs.
- Contribute to the development of tooling concepts.
- Participate in tooling design reviews.
- Design of installation tooling for pierce and clinch products.
- Create purchase component list as project owner.
- Create engineering prints for SPAC installation tooling.
- Create RFQ and POR documents and manage process.
- Integration of installation tooling with customer stamping dies.
- Support integration of control systems.
- Design of prototype installation tooling.
- Installation and start up of SPAC tooling at customer sites.
- Proficient using Microsoft Suite and other data entry software.
- Participate in R&D activities of installation tool design, performance enhancement initiatives.
- Participate in the installation and testing of SPAC products.
- Conduct analysis of SPAC performance results and prepare detailed reports.
- Perform field inspection of customer operation and trouble shoot.
- Assist and communicate with RB&W sales and sales engineering teams on projects.
- Maintain and update administrative and technical files.
Qualifications
- Licensed Tool and Die Maker with 5+ years experience in build and maintenance of progressive dies.
- Experience with SPC and GD&T.
- Engineering or technical school degree.
- Experience with CAD programs.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Highly organized and diligent.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Self-motivated and confident.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive Industry experience at the Tier 1 level with 5 or more years of experience in a tooling department.
- Experience with in-die, pierce and clinch nut applications and designs.
- Proficient in SolidWorks.
