Position Type: Full Time (35 Hours per week, dependent on the number of enrolled students in the classroom.

Wage: Competitive wages start between $25 - $29 per hour based on professional experience, education, and personality qualities.

Pivot Point’s Community Classrooms offer a full-day alternative to large classrooms in public or private schools, or to home-schooling, by creating small group learning centres within our non-traditional community settings. Optimized for students with ASD and other Diverse Abilities, most classrooms range in size from 3 to 12 students with multiple teaching staff (i.e., one lead instructor and potentially multiple educational behaviour interventionists).
Are YOU willing to maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development?
Can YOU develop annual plans, monthly themes, as well as weekly and daily lesson structures that form the overall teaching structures of each day, and thereby contain each lesson plan and intended learning experience for each student?
Can YOU plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are directly linked to goals stated in each student’s IEP?
Can YOU manage student behavior in the classroom by implementing group management strategies that inspire cooperation with social and safety rules and procedures?
Are YOU ready for an exhilarating 32.5 to 40 hours a week (typically 8-3)?
Position Details
- Position Term: August 2026 – June 2027
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
- Commitment Required: Applicants must be able to commit to the full 10-month school year term
- Employment Status: Ongoing employment, with scheduled classroom and summer breaks
- Compensation: Salaried position with the option to enroll in benefits
- Support Structure: Behavioural supports provided
- Educational Support: IEP and curriculum support provided through Online Learning (OL) schools
- Classroom Structure: Instructors work within unique “pods” consisting of approximately 3–5 students throughout the school year
- Collaboration: Weekly check-ins and collaboration meetings with the Online Learning (OL) school team
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing (or overseeing the implementation of) an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
- Provide appropriate feedback on each student’s work, progress and needs to individual students, their families, and their designated Learning Support Teacher.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use that information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
Qualifications
Preference is given to candidates with undergraduate or Master’s degrees in teaching from an accredited institution or related teaching field. Otherwise, certification in Special Education Assistant, Child and Youth Care, or related programs with many years of experience may be acceptable.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including DL’s and their Learning Support Teachers.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing, in a timely manner.
- Ability to use Google docs, sheets, slides as well as several other common technology platforms.
- Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (Driver's Abstract will be required).
- Have an Emergency First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Working Conditions
- Willingness to work with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including aggression.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols, including de-escalation techniques, regular team check-ins, and MANDT training.
- There is potential for workers to experience verbal aggression, such as swearing, or physical aggression, which could result in injury.
