Coin and Badge Designer (Artwork and Production) SharkzCoins | Esquimalt, BC | Full-
Time | In-Office $28.00/hr (starting rate, with performance-based growth)
About the Role
SharkzCoins is Canada's leading manufacturer of challenge coins, police badges, and uniform
insignia for clients that include the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, law enforcement and public safety agencies across the country. We are looking for a Coin and Badge Designer to join our team in Esquimalt.
This role spans two disciplines that we need in one person: creative design and physical product creation. Our coins, badges, medals, and insignia are real objects that people wear on their uniforms and carry with pride, so we need someone who can both create original artwork and turn that artwork into an accurate, manufacturable metal product. You will focus on our uniform product lines, working from client briefs to take badges, pins, insignia, and related items to production with our overseas partners, alongside creative coin design work.
What You Will Do
Create original, client-ready design artwork for coins, badges, medals, and insignia in
Adobe Illustrator
Translate that artwork into a production-ready physical product, specifying material,
plating and finish, enamel type, overall dimensions and tolerances, weight, and back
attachment hardware
Verify dimensional accuracy against existing products using measuring tools such as
vernier callipers
Apply working knowledge of fabrication materials such as zinc and brass and appropriate
joining and attachment methods
Work with our production manager and overseas factory contacts to take uniform
products to production, including reviewing samples for accuracy
Maintain consistency with established standards, particularly for police and military
insignia
Liaise with clients and colleagues, translating technical detail into plain language and
back again
What We Are Looking For
This role requires demonstrated ability in both creative design and physical product creation. We are not looking for screen-based, UX, web, or animation work, and we are not looking for a purely technical or engineering background without creative design ability. The right person sits at the intersection: artistic enough to create original professional-level graphics that will become something people are proud to wear, and practical enough to make it accurate and manufacturable.
Professional-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop is an asset
Demonstrated ability to create original design artwork, not only technical drawings
Working knowledge of metal fabrication materials and processes relevant to cast and die-
struck products
Comfort with precision measurement tools such as vernier callipers
Relevant background may include industrial design, jewellery design, or the medals,
coins, and awards trade
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical
matters clearly to non-technical clients
A mature, grounded approach: someone who asks good questions, thinks critically, and
takes pride in getting the details right
Proficiency in standard MS Office tools
We are open to candidates with limited direct experience if the right combination of creative
ability, technical aptitude, communication, and professional attitude is there. The right person
will grow into this role.
What We Offer
Starting rate of $28.00/hr with growth tied to performance
Group health benefits package
Enhanced vacation and sick leave
A stable, close-knit team working on meaningful products for Canadian institutions
To Apply
Apply through Indeed with a cover letter.
Please include a portfolio that demonstrates both halves of this role:
original design artwork you created, and physical products you designed that were actually
manufactured, ideally in metal. Applications without evidence of both will not be considered.
Pay: From $28.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
