Overview
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and executing human resources strategies, programs, and initiatives across the organization's Canadian and U.S. operations. This role serves as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, supporting organizational growth, fostering employee engagement, and developing talent management practices that align with business objectives.
The Human Resources Manager will oversee all core HR functions, including employee relations, recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance management, training and development, policy administration, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Human Resources Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and workforce planning.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for salaried and hourly positions across Canada and the United States.
- Develop workforce plans to support business growth and succession planning.
- Establish effective onboarding and orientation programs.
- Build relationships with recruitment agencies, educational institutions, and professional organizations.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary resource for employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
- Coach managers on employee performance, disciplinary actions, terminations, and workplace accommodations.
- Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and organizational culture development.
Compensation & Benefits
- Administer compensation programs and support annual salary review processes.
- Manage employee benefit programs in Canada and the United States.
- Conduct market benchmarking and recommend competitive compensation practices.
- Support payroll teams with HR-related data and compliance requirements.
Performance Management & Development
- Manage performance review processes and employee development programs.
- Partner with leaders to identify training and development needs.
- Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives.
- Develop and track employee performance metrics.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment legislation in Ontario and other Canadian provinces as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local U.S. employment laws.
- Maintain HR policies, employee handbooks, and related documentation.
- Manage workplace investigations, accommodation requests, leaves of absence, and return-to-work programs.
- Oversee compliance with health and safety requirements and workplace standards.
HR Operations & Reporting
- Maintain HRIS and employee records in accordance with privacy legislation.
- Develop and track HR metrics, including turnover, retention, recruitment effectiveness, and employee engagement.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Lead HR process improvement initiatives and implementation of HR technologies.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or related field.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), or equivalent designation preferred.
- 5–8+ years of progressive human resources experience, including management-level responsibilities.
- Experience supporting both Canadian and U.S. employee populations.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and Canadian HR practices.
- Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment laws.
- Experience in distribution, logistics, or multi-location operations preferred.
- Experience in managing employee relations and workplace investigations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of:
- Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA)
- Ontario Human Rights Code
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- Canadian Human Rights legislation
- U.S. employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and related regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Pay: $95,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
