About the Role

United Specialty Metals Inc. (USMI) is a growing structural steel fabrication shop in Whitby. We're looking for an experienced saw operator to cut structural steel and prepare material for our fitting and welding crew. This is a hands-on production role with real room to grow as the company expands.

You'll run our Hydmech V-20 horizontal band saw, work from cut lists and shop drawings, and keep material moving accurately to the fitters. If you know your way around a structural shop and take pride in clean, accurate cuts, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Operate the Hydmech V-20 horizontal band saw to cut beams, channel, angle, HSS, and plate to spec

Read cut lists and shop drawings; measure and mark accurately using fractional imperial dimensions

Set up, change, and maintain blades; keep the machine clean and running well

Move, stage, and organize cut material for fitters using overhead crane and forklift

Handle and organize incoming steel and track material as required

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area

What You Need

Prior experience operating a metal-cutting band saw in a steel or metal fabrication shop

Confident reading cut lists and shop drawings, and measuring in fractional imperial

Comfortable working with structural shapes — beams, channel, angle, HSS

Forklift and overhead crane experience an asset (training provided if needed)

Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work on your feet in a shop environment (lifting, standing, hot and loud conditions)

Steel-toe boots required

40 hours a week with the chance of over time when needed.
