THE ROLE
The Survey Field Assistant supports the survey team in conducting field surveys for various projects. This role involves assisting with data collection, operating survey equipment, and ensuring the smooth execution of field activities. The Field Assistant works in diverse outdoor environments and plays a crucial role in the accuracy and efficiency of survey operations.
RELOCATION REQUIREMENT
Candidates must be able and willing to relocate to other work locations within Ontario, Canada, as required by business needs. The successful candidate must be flexible and available to work at any company location across the province.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in land surveying activities, such as holding or moving stakes and rods, clearing brush and debris from line of survey and transporting surveying tools to work area
- Carry and transport survey equipment and materials to and from survey sites
- Set up, operate, and maintain survey equipment such as GPS units, total stations, and levels
- Determine precise geographic locations using global positioning system (GPS) equipment Record measurements and other information obtained during field survey activities
- Assist in the calculation, analysis and computation of measurements obtained during field surveys
- Maintain detailed and organized field notes and sketches
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicles
- Communicate effectively with team members and report any issues or discrepancies to the Survey Party Chief
- Analyze latitude, longitude and angles and compute trigonometric and other calculations to plot features, contours and areas to a specific scale
- Assist in the preparation of detailed drawings, charts and plans and survey notes and reports
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and procedures during field activities
- Perform other labouring and elemental tasks as required
WHAT YOU BRING
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills related to surveying
- Valid G-Class Ontario driver’s license
- Ability to travel to different job sites as required
- Completion of a relevant post-secondary program an asset
- Prior experience in land surveying or a related field is preferred but not required
- Basic understanding of surveying principles and equipment is beneficial

- Physical ability to work in various outdoor environments, including fields, marshes, uneven terrain, and undeveloped areas
- Ability to lift and carry surveying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
