Job Summary: The Animal Nutritionist will be responsible for routine least cost formulations, new product formulation and development, assisting with pricing, continuous product improvement and scientific evaluation of new ingredients.
Collaborate with members of the sales team to provide nutrition and technical support from distributor to farm level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide least cost formulations to production based on ingredient inventory and composition using Brill formulation software, ensuring formulation and product labels comply with The Feeds Act
- Review and verify correctness of veterinary prescriptions for medicated feed
- Review published literature and peer reviewed journals for new relevant research. Relevant articles to be summarized and communicated to the sales team
- Stay current on industry and market trends to evaluate relevant products and ingredients
- Collaborate on research trials and product development initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Provide customer technical support from a multi-level approach (farm to distributor levels) which may encompass on-farm troubleshooting to attending or speaking at industry events.
- Develop written materials and/or presentations related to products, young animal nutrition and management, for the sales team, agricultural shows, or conferences.
- Develop acadamia connections to keep current trends and upcoming projects.
- Assist Feed Safety Team as needed to ensure requirements of the Feed Safety Plan (FeedAssure®, The Feeds Act, The Health of Animals Act) are met
- Assist Quality and Feed Safety Team conduct routine testing of raw materials and finished products as required
Qualifications:
- Master of Science with specialization in the animal sciences and strong research experience
- Familiarity with Canadian Feed Regulations, Feed Assure®
- Experience least cost formulating (Brill, or other software)
- Solid understanding and knowledge of ruminant nutrition
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
