Senior Manager, Assurance & Tax – CPA

PDC Accounting Evolved Professional Corporation · Ottawa, Ontario (Hybrid) · Full-time, Permanent · $120,000–$160,000 + bonus

About us

PDC Accounting Evolved Professional Corporation is a CPA firm with five offices across two provinces — Kelowna and Summerland in British Columbia, and Ottawa, Kemptville and Perth in Ontario. We serve owner-managed businesses, not-for-profits and charities, public sector entities, and condominium corporations, with clients across Canada.

We’re big enough that the work is genuinely varied — audits, reviews, compilations, and owner-manager tax planning all in the same week — and small enough that you’ll know every client on your desk by name and speak to the partner the same day you need to.

The opportunity

This role is for a CPA who is already managing engagements at a larger firm and has run out of room.

You’ll own a portfolio outright — the clients, the engagements, the deadlines, and the people delivering them. You’ll sign off on compilation, review and audit files, handle the accounting and tax issues that come out of them, and work directly with the partner on how the practice grows rather than executing someone else’s plan for it.

What you’ll do

Engagement ownership

Independently manage and review compilation (CSRS 4200), review (CSRE 2400) and audit (CAS) engagements from planning through to release.
Identify and resolve the accounting, assurance and tax issues that surface on a file, and make the call on the ones that don’t have a clean answer.
Apply ASPE and ASNPO with real fluency across owner-managed businesses, not-for-profits, charities and condominium corporations.
Review corporate and personal tax returns arising from your engagements, and bring forward the planning opportunities you spot while you’re in the file.

Client relationships

Own a portfolio of small and medium-sized business clients as their primary point of contact — not as the person who prepares the file for someone else to present.
Advise owner-managers on the decisions in front of them: remuneration, structure, financing, succession, and where the numbers are telling them something they haven’t noticed yet.
Handle the difficult client conversations, the scope changes and the fee discussions on your own files.

Team leadership

Manage workflow, capacity and compliance deadlines across your engagement group.
Take an active role in hiring, onboarding and staffing decisions.
Mentor and coach staff and managers — review notes that teach, in-season technical sessions, and the day-to-day guidance that raises the technical floor of the whole team.
Improve how the work gets done: file standards, templates, CaseWare discipline, and the processes that determine whether a file arrives at review in good shape.

Practice growth

Work directly with the partner on where the practice goes next — service lines, client mix, pricing, capacity and technology.
Build relationships in the Ottawa business community and bring in the work you want to be doing.

What you bring

Canadian CPA designation in good standing (CPA, CA / CPA, CGA / CPA, CMA).
Minimum 5 years of Canadian public practice experience, with meaningful time in a manager or senior manager capacity — you have owned engagements and signed off on other people’s work.
Strong working knowledge of CSRS 4200, CSRE 2400 review standards, and ASPE and ASNPO accounting standards.
Sound knowledge of personal and corporate tax planning for owner-managed clients. Completion of, or progress through, the CPA In-Depth Tax Program is a strong asset.
Demonstrated leadership of teams, with the project management and organizational skills to carry several engagements and deadlines at once.
Proficiency with CaseWare/CaseView and professional tax software (Taxprep, TaxCycle or ProFile) is an asset.
Audit experience across not-for-profit, charity or public sector engagements is an asset.
A CPA Ontario public accounting licence, or eligibility to obtain one, if you will be signing assurance engagements. [Confirm and state your requirement here — see internal notes.]
