Job Summary
Centre Electric & Technology is currently seeking a skilled, motivated, and reliable Level 3/4 Electrical Apprentice to join our growing Electrical Division. This position is intended for an experienced apprentice who has developed strong hands-on electrical skills and is capable of performing a wide range of commercial and industrial electrical installations with limited supervision.
A Level 3/4 Apprentice is expected to have significant electrical trade experience and completed the appropriate level of apprenticeship schooling. At this level, the apprentice should demonstrate increasing independence, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to take responsibility for assigned electrical work while supporting and mentoring less experienced apprentices.
The successful candidate should be proficient in commercial electrical installations, including AC90/BX rough-ins, lighting whips and fixtures, seismic restraints, EMT conduit bending and installation, junction boxes, Coreline/ENT and slab installations, single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, wire pulls, receptacles, switches, and lighting controls.
The Level 3/4 Apprentice should also have experience with low-voltage lighting control systems such as Lutron, Wattstopper, and Cooper; fire alarm devices and circuitry; electrical panels; transformers; disconnects; switchgear; and feeders. Additional experience with these systems is considered an asset rather than a requirement.
Key Responsibilities
Your role as a Level 3/4 Apprentice in electrical construction will require you to perform increasingly advanced electrical work while supporting the electrical crew and mentoring less experienced apprentices. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Full-Time Work: This position is full-time with the requirement of working a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. In some instances, there may be a requirement to work outside of these hours, and any overtime will be paid as per BC labor laws
- Electrical Installation: Perform commercial and industrial electrical installations, including AC90/BX rough-ins, lighting whips and fixtures, receptacles, switches, line-voltage lighting controls, and other electrical systems.
- Conduit Installation: Bend and install EMT conduit ranging from ½" to 4", install junction boxes, and complete conduit runs in accordance with drawings and project requirements.
- Coreline and Slab Installations: Install and assist with Coreline/ENT and slab box installations in concrete applications, including accurate layout and installation according to project drawings.
- Electrical Circuitry: Perform single-phase electrical installations with confidence and work on three-phase systems, including electrical circuits, panels, receptacles, lighting, and related equipment.
- Wire Pulls: Perform and assist with coordinating wire pulls, including proper wire identification and colour sets for three-phase systems, while following safe work practices.
- Lighting Control Systems: Install and troubleshoot lighting control systems, including Lutron, Wattstopper, and Cooper, where applicable.
- Fire Alarm Systems: Install fire alarm devices and circuitry, including bells, pull stations, smoke detectors, and heat detectors. Assist with fire alarm verification and testing as required.
- Distribution Equipment: Install and assist with electrical panels, transformers, disconnects, switchgear, and feeders, including associated wiring and terminations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot electrical issues and assist in resolving problems related to electrical systems, controls, fire alarm systems, and distribution equipment.
- Independent Work: Complete assigned electrical installations with limited supervision and take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and progress of assigned work.
- Project Coordination: Organize electrical tasks, tools, and materials and coordinate work with journeypersons, foremen, project teams, other trades, and site personnel.
- Drawings and Specifications: Read and interpret electrical drawings, layouts, specifications, and installation requirements and apply them correctly in the field.
- Safety and Code Compliance: Perform all electrical work in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), applicable regulations, company policies, project requirements, and safe work practices.
- Quality Control: Ensure electrical installations are completed accurately, safely, efficiently, and according to project standards.
- Problem Solving: Use knowledge and experience to identify potential issues, troubleshoot electrical systems, and find practical solutions while seeking guidance when required.
- Teamwork: Work effectively with journeypersons, foremen, apprentices, project managers, other trades, and site personnel to maintain project progress and quality.
- Professionalism: Maintain a positive and professional attitude, demonstrate reliability and accountability, and represent Centre Electric & Technology professionally on all job sites.
- Physical Readiness: Be physically capable of performing the duties of an electrical construction apprentice, including lifting materials, working from ladders and lifts, working in various positions, and performing tasks on active construction sites.
Requirements
- Registered Level 3 or Level 4 Construction Electrician Apprentice in BC, with the applicable 3rd or 4th year apprenticeship training completed.
- Level 3: Minimum 2 years of relevant commercial electrical construction experience preferred.
- Level 4: Minimum 3 years of relevant commercial electrical construction experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, conduit installation, wiring, lighting controls, fire alarm systems, and electrical distribution equipment.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to safety, quality, and completing assigned work efficiently
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications, follow the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and work safely on active construction sites.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, troubleshoot electrical problems, and maintain high-quality and accurate work.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with journeypersons, foremen, apprentices, and other trades.
Level Placement:
Candidates will be assessed and classified as Level 3 or Level 4 based on their electrical apprenticeship schooling, current SkilledTradesBC level, work-based training experience, demonstrated technical skills, independence, and ability to perform the responsibilities associated with the applicable level.
