Job Title: Summer Grounds maintenance
Main Tasks: Grounds maintenance, lawn care, general clean up
Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Executive Director
Workdays: Evenings / Weekends
Hours: 20-30/h weekly
Position Summary:
The Cowichan Sportsplex is seeking a part time, evenings and weekends grounds maintenance worker who would be part of the team responsible for the care of the landscaping for the 26-acre facility. The position is for the summer months until the early fall. Day to day tasks of: Mowing grass, weeding, small repairs, daily garbage collection and routine maintenance around the facility. An outdoor working environment with some indoor janitorial and building maintenance required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
General Tasks:
- Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties
- Mow lawns / fields using a riding lawnmower
- Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
- Landscaping of grass, shrubs and bushes
- Daily garbage collection and disposal
- Sweep walkway of leaves and debris
- Apply fertilizer to grounds to enhance growth
- Shovel snow from walkways and spread de-ice
- Cut down tree limbs / branches
- Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance procedures on equipment
- Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as required
- Install rock, cement, lighting, water, and furniture, occasionally required
- Water plants and grass as needed
Required Skills / Equipment & Machinery Experience:
- Suggested experience in related field to grounds maintenance or landscaping
- Some janitorial experience
- Basic mechanical knowledge; able to inspect equipment for issues and minor repairs
- An eye for detail and an ability to self-motivate when working alone
- Willingness to have a criminal records check completed
- Ability to operate manual transmission transport vehicle, hydro static drive tractor with front end loader, zero turn rotary lawn mower, various tow behind aeration equipment. Can train.
- Ability to operate small equipment such as an edger, backpack blower, weed trimmers, walk behind mower and turf vacuum.
- Drivers abstract and valid drivers’ license

Compensation / Terms:
The position is set at an hourly rate of $23/h. There will be a two week probationary period from the date of hire when a meeting will take place between maintenance manager and executive director to discuss progress moving forward.
