Optimil Machinery is a manufacturer of sawmill equipment and other related machinery.
We manufacture a wide variety of steel and aluminum parts: large fabricated steel frames, bearing assemblies, rolls, guide plates, components for cylinders, etc. Our facility has a variety of different machine centres, all engaged in making high speed processing equipment for the forest industry. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Horizontal Boring Mill Operator to join our manufacturing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- set up and operate horizontal boring mills to machine components according to engineering drawings and specifications
- read and interpret blueprints, work orders and technical drawings
- select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures and work-holding devices
- perform machine setups, offsets, tool changes and program adjustments as required
- measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges and dial indicators
- ensure all parts meet dimensional and quality requirements
- maintain accurate production and inspection records
- perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping tasks
- identify opportunities to improve machining processes, tooling and cycle times
- follow all company safety policies and procedures
- work collaboratively with supervisors, programmers, engineers and other machinists to meet production schedules
Qualifications:
- Red Seal/Journeyperson Machinist certification
- 3-5 years experience operating horizontal boring mills
- strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds and speeds
- ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- experience machining large weldments and fabricated components is considered an asset
- familiarity with CNC controls and manual machining operations
- strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
- ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- excellent communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements:
- ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment
- ability to use overhead cranes and rigging equipment safely (training/certification considered an asset)
