Job Title: Formwork Carpenter
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work as a formwork carpenter or apprentice carpenter on a variety of concrete construction projects across Abbotsford, Mission, and Surrey, BC. You will participate in daily planning meetings, interpret blueprints, and contribute to light industrial tilt-up formwork and architectural concrete work, including panels, footings, slabs, retaining walls, stairs, and layouts.
Responsibilities

Meet with site leadership each morning to review project priorities and plan daily activities.

Attend toolbox meetings to receive task assignments and safety updates for the day.

Read and interpret blueprints and layout drawings related to panels, footings, slabs, retaining walls, stairs, and underground work.

Understand and follow processes for footing, slab, panel, and underground layouts, including selecting appropriate materials and planning work sequences and methods.

Assist in building concrete panels, footings, retaining walls, and stairs according to project specifications.

Support the preparation and execution of footing, slab, panel, and underground layouts on site.

Perform various forms of light industrial tilt-up formwork for schools, production facilities, and other concrete structures.

Contribute to architectural concrete work on residential and commercial projects.

Use and maintain a full carpenter’s tool belt, including hammer, tape measure, squares, levels, utility knife, and other necessary tools.

Follow site safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Adapt to different project sites and conditions while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Essential Skills

Minimum 2+ years of experience in construction as a carpenter.

At least 1+ year of experience using personal hand tools and a full carpenter’s tool belt in a construction environment.

Practical experience with concrete formwork, including tilt-up and industrial applications.

Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and layout drawings.

Strong understanding of footing, slab, panel, and underground layout processes.

Proficiency in using standard carpentry tools such as hammer, tape measure, squares, levels, and utility knife.

Reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple sites in Abbotsford, Mission, and Surrey.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.

Ability to work overtime regularly and manage physically demanding tasks in a construction setting.

Work Environment
You will work primarily in concrete formwork environments across multiple sites, including an architectural concrete house project in Mission, a tilt-up school in Abbotsford, a tilt-up production facility, and additional tilt-up projects in Surrey. Typical hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with regular overtime beyond 3:00 p.m., averaging 3–4 days of overtime per week and a total of approximately 45–50 hours weekly. The setting is an active construction environment that requires consistent use of PPE and a full carpenter’s tool belt. Work is hands-on, physically demanding, and performed outdoors and indoors depending on project stage, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficient production.
