Position Summary:

The position of Housekeeping Attendant will commit to incorporate our mission, vision, and our values, which are Compassion, Collaboration, Respect, Social Justice, Integrity and Stewardship, and uphold our ethical traditions as foundational aspects in all actions and decision-making.
Under the direction of the Site Administrator, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The Housekeeping Attendant performs disinfection of areas in the facility and assists in the transport and set-up of furniture, equipment, and supplies. The Housekeeping Attendant will also be responsible for performing other related duties as required.
This position will:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regularly shows a friendly presence in the common areas and resident suites, to welcome comments and suggestions
- Assists with special and marketing events
- Attentive care and consideration of resident, staff and visitor requests
- Cleans offices, staff room, show/guest suites and common areas according to established procedures and schedules, as required.
- Clean and replenishes public washrooms supplies, as required.
- Maintains housekeeping storage area, cart and equipment.
- Vacuums all carpet areas in the residence. Removes spots and stains from carpets and upholstery as required and according to established cleaning schedules. Operates carpet and floor cleaning equipment as required.
- Picks up and disposes of garbage from waste containers to central garbage depot area.
- Wash and clean of common areas’ interior and exterior windows and other glass surfaces
- Performs additional cleaning as required, including washing walls, lights, vents, fans, appliances, inside windows, door and frames, and patios
- Responsible for move-in and move-out cleans
- Ensures that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the building
- Ensures a sanitary working and production environment in accordance with accepted practices and standards
Administrative
- Completes Housekeeping Tasks Daily Checklists
- Instructs residents in the use of equipment, washing machines and offers assistance in any other area of concern
- Conducts monthly inventory of housekeeping supplies and chemicals and notifying Administrative Assistant of items to order
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives
- Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns regarding resident behavior in an incident report
- Maintains effective and oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families and staff of other departments, using appropriate lines of communication
- Ensures all Covenant Living policies are adhered to
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
- Clear Criminal Record
- WHIMS Certificate (or willing to obtain)
- 1-3-years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience in a retirement community or continuing care setting preferred
- Proficient in both written and spoken English.
- Understanding and proven ability of basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and co-workers
- Must have the manual dexterity required for handling equipment and supplies
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to model teamwork and excellence in customer service
- Work in an environment where there are many distractions and attention is needed on numerous issues at a time
- Able to handle stressful situations with empathy, demonstrate respect for others using tact, courtesy and diplomacy
- Ability to work with limited supervision and show initiative
- Constantly seeks to improve, streamline and ensure continuous quality improvement for residents and tenants
- Ability to maintain good working relations with staff, public and outside agencies
- Good organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills
- Proficient in handling multiple priorities and adapting quickly to an ever-changing environment
- Flexibility with changes in the organization and maintain a positive outlook
- This position requires the ability to multi-task
- Additional work hours may be required
- Reacts to schedule changes in a timely manner
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Bending, kneeling, stooping on a regular basis
- Walk, stretch and stand on a variety of surfaces for at least 6 hours per day
- Push and/or pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds
