ABOUT THE ROLE
Aquafor is looking for a Landscape Designer to join the firm’s growing Landscape Division. The role of the Designer is to support the Lead Landscape Architect and our interdisciplinary team of stormwater and civil engineers, geomorphologists and watercourse restoration specialists, ecologists and arborists and on behalf of both public and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, managing and implementing landscape architectural projects at multiple scales, from streetscapes, parks and plazas to watercourse and shoreline restoration, greenways and trails. Working with senior staff, the successful candidate will manage and deliver innovative projects and assist in procuring a mix of public and private sector projects in order to grow the Landscape Architecture practice.
- Working collaboratively as part of our team and with stakeholders and clients
- Working with the Team to prepare conceptual and detailed design drawings
- Preparing construction drawings including construction details, planting plans and grading plans using AutoCAD software (Autodesk Civil3D)
- Developing visualizations, graphics and illustrations for presentations and reporting using Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and Lumion, or other visualization software as needed
- Developing contract documents (tender documents and drawings) and cost estimates
- Assisting with preparation of technical reports, design briefs and memos
- Providing contract administration support and site inspections during construction
- Providing technical guidance to Aquafor staff with expertise in other disciplines
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is looking to advance their career in landscape architecture and urban design with a focus on environmental restoration, green infrastructure and stormwater management. Within Aquafor’s small firm setting of approx. 100 staff, you will be involved in all aspects of the design process from field work and background data collection to conceptual design right through to construction supervision and administration.
QUALITIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Completion of a BLA, MLA degree or College Diploma in Landscape Design or Landscape Architecture from a recognized institution,
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional design experience in related field,
- Very strong technical drawing skills, creative capacity and design eye,
- Capacity to prepare high-quality renderings, visualizations and design presentations using hand graphics and relevant computer software (Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Enscape, SketchUp and Lumion),
- Expertise in detailed grading design and cut-fill analysis for trail, stormwater, streetscape and parking lot projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D,
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills such as active listening with colleagues and clients alike; ability to communicate over the phone, in video calls, and in-person; as well as the capacity to clearly explain ideas verbally and in writing,
- Exceptional design and technical knowledge,
- Team player,
- Ability to work on multiple projects with aggressive delivery schedules,
- Previous experience working with municipalities and private developers will be considered an asset,
- Experience in consulting and construction supervision and administration will be considered an asset,
- Experience in landscape construction, stormwater management, green infrastructure and Low Impact Development (LID) would be considered a significant asset,
- Experience and working knowledge of plant material, plant selection and native plant community structure and function would be considered a significant asset

- Position Type: Full-time (6-month probation period)
- Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000/yr.
