Job Summary
The Air Cargo Supervisor oversees daily operations to ensure shipments move efficiently on time and in compliance with international trade regulations. The role supervises operational staff, coordinates with the airlines, ground handling agents, customs authorities, customers and global partners, and helps maintain operational efficiency and service performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, lead, coach, and train Air Cargo operators to ensure high performance and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain the ability to effectively cover each team member's desk during vacations, statutory leaves, or short-staffed situations to guarantee seamless service continuity.
- Resolve daily operational issues and escalations effectively and in a timely manner.
- Assist in upholding basic HR principles and monitoring team productivity.
- Manage and streamline daily operations for the end-to-end movement of air import and export shipments.
- Coordinate directly with shippers, consignees, airlines, ground handling agents, warehouse personnel, customs authorities, and global partners.
- Process shipments and accurately generate all required documentation (including check-in sheets, HAWBs, MAWBs, and pickup/delivery orders) from the operating system.
- Leverage strong experience with air freight market rates to optimize procurement, maximize profitability when quoting for air import and export opportunities.
- Support business development efforts by maintaining excellent relationships with existing clients and identifying new commercial opportunities.
- Assisting the team to keep customer profiles (COP) up-to-date, conduct regular verification audit.
- Prepare weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports to meet customer requirements and support senior management financial reporting deadline.
- Maintain total compliance with national security frameworks, specifically the Transport Canada Air Cargo Security Program and the CBSA Partners in Protection (PIP) program.
- Various other tasks may be required.
Education/Certification:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry, with a dedicated focus on air cargo handling operations for both import and export.
- Solid understanding of Canadian import/export procedures, customs regulations, and international logistics.
- Strong skills of Microsoft office products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Power Bi.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a good focus on structured, efficient and professional email etiquettes.
- Excellent customer service management, effective multitasking, time management, and proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Some knowledge of basic HR principles
- University degree / college diploma in business or related field, or combination of education and experience
