Position Overview

Champion Ironworks Ltd. is seeking an experienced and dependable Welder/Fitter to join our fabrication team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the layout, fitting, and welding of structural steel and miscellaneous metals components according to engineered drawings and shop standards. This is a hands-on role that requires precision, teamwork, and a strong understanding of fabrication practices.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret and work from fabrication drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Lay out, fit, tack, and weld structural steel and miscellaneous metal assemblies (e.g., beams, columns, stairs, railings, frames).
Operate tools and equipment such as torches, grinders, magnetic drills, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and tolerances.
Follow established welding procedures and safety protocols.
Collaborate with supervisors and fellow fabricators to meet production goals and deadlines.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, and perform routine equipment maintenance.
Participate in shop meetings, safety talks, and ongoing training as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel/miscellaneous metals fabrication (preferred).
Proficiency in MIG and/or stick welding (CWB certification considered an asset).
Strong blueprint reading and layout skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and handle multiple tasks.
Experience with oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and grinding.
Familiarity with safe operation of overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a fabrication environment.

Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
