Marketing and Development Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Marketing and Development Coordinator will be responsible for the fundraising and marketing actions of FEED Niagara. This will be achieved through brand promotion to the broader Niagara community to build capacity and sustainability for FEED Niagara’s operations. This will be achieved while working in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures and supporting the strategic plan, mission, vision & values and Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence.
The position will support fundraising events and participate in third party and member events as needed. The Marketing and Development Coordinator will assist in grant writing and reporting and engage in donor recognition activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication and Marketing
- Increase the visibility of the organization across the region of Niagara
- Create engaging and effective social media content to build the FEED Niagara brand and encourage donations to the organization and partners
- Create a marketing plan that includes major events and seasonal content
- Keep the FEED Niagara website up to date including event promotions
Community Outreach
- Establish the FEED Niagara brand as a voice for food security in Niagara
- Establish partnerships with organizations that want to support our fight against hunger
- Attend events to promote FEED Niagara and its member organizations
- Represent FEED Niagara to the community and potential donors and partners
Fundraising and Events
- Establish a donor base for FEED Niagara that targets corporate and high-level individual giving/ major gifts while avoiding conflict with FEED Niagara members
- Work to establish an annual fundraising event for FEED Niagara with regional impact and appeal
- Support third party fundraiser events, including FEED Niagara member events
Grant Writing and Recognition
- Assist in the planning and writing of grant applications
- Assist in the timely completion of grant reports
- Ensure that grant organizations are properly recognized for their contributions, including through social media, press releases, and recognition events
Other:
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, suppliers, donors, clients and other stakeholders
- Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding and appreciation for FEED Niagara’s mission, vision, strategic direction and values
- Exercise a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
- Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence
- Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others
- Immediately report all workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- Degree or diploma in Marketing or Business Administration
- Experience in the non-profit sector, roles in marketing or community outreach (an asset)
- A combination of education and experience will also be considered
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in image editing tools such as InDesign or Canva
- Proficiency in leveraging social media to create an impact
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing people living in poverty
- Experience in a fundraising position, including major gifts
- Familiarity with the Niagara Region, including the social services sector and major groups
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Superior written and verbal skills; effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and understanding of issues facing people living in poverty
- Organized and detail oriented, with the strong ability to manage multiple deadlines and pressures
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships, able to work effectively independently or as part of a team
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Safe Food Handler certification recognized by Food Banks Canada (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is required
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Modest but comfortable surroundings that has periods of exposure to continuous noise generated by the general needs of day-to-day operations.
- Office environment with access to warehouse; sitting, walking and climbing stairs
- Prolonged visual attention and/or concentration using both a computer and phone
- Lifting and moving of office supplies/equipment/inventory of approximately 30 lbs.
- Local travel on behalf of FEED Niagara may be required
- Work duties are routinely performed at main office, and occasionally offsite at related venues
- Extended work hours including early morning, evenings and occasional weekends may be required
- Work Location: In person at the FEED Niagara office (Vineland)
- Some travel in the Niagara Region required
