We specialize in the sale and delivery of topsoil, garden mix, decorative rock, sand & gravel, fill clay, sod and other various landscaping products. During the winter months we conduct snow removal of commercial sites which utilizes various equipment and trucks to push/pile/haul out snow. We are currently searching for a Class 1 Truck Driver.
Position Overview
As the Class 1 Truck Driver you will provide fleet operation services to all external customers. You will gain thorough knowledge of all Black Dirt Company products; and an exceptional understanding of fleet operations. We are looking for experience with product retrieval and delivery of landscape products (not long-haul trucking). Experience and the willingness to move/haul equipment will be considered an asset.
This is a Seasonal Hourly position which has positions available that will operate 6 days/week. As a seasonal business, dependent on the weather, the job is estimated to run until end of Fall with the opportunity to haul snow over the winter to fulfill commercial snow removal contracts on an on-call, as needed basis. Work is not always guaranteed on rain days.
Your Responsibilities:
· Check for safety concerns on location (assess hazards)
· Conduct product retrieval from company fields, gravel pits, and/or quarries
· Perform route deliveries for customers or contractors
· Contact Truck Manager for supplies and parts
· Maintain fleet cleanliness
· Maintain excellent driving habits
· Ensure fleet/equipment maintenance is performed
· Understand weight/volume and fleet capacities
· Maintain positive customer relations
· Conduct pre-, mid-, and post trip vehicle inspection; correct minor deficiencies, report major deficiencies to Manager Truck Operations
· Ensure proper PPE compliance
· Conduct One (1) Truck Driver Site Assessment per day to identify hazards and controls at the first site of the day
· Report Major/Minor/First Aid Incidents/Illnesses and Property Damage; submit completed forms to Safety Manager
· Work with Safety Manager to correctly handle incident investigations, when necessary
· Maintain a clean and safe workplace (shop/wash bay and fleets) to minimize hazards; help correct or delegate any deficiencies
· Report to Manager Truck Operations and/or Safety Manager with driver noncompliance issues regarding company rules, policies and procedures
Qualifications
· Ability to remain calm in handling multiple customer delivery requests
· Exceptional organizational skills
· Ability to assess customer need promptly and execute accordingly
· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
· Highly organized with the ability to handle Dispatcher prioritized deliveries and multiple tasks at any given time
· Self-motivated and enjoys a fast-paced work environment
· Great time management skills; available for seasonal long hours, a clear schedule to work all hours of the day, any day of the week and a strong work ethic. This position will require, although rare, potential holiday work
· Weather dependant company
· Hauling equipment considered an asset
· 3-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract a requirement
· Training In: Pits/Products & Hours of Operation, Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Training, Air Brakes, Drivers Training, Road Test (conducted by an experienced driver or professional instructor), Weights/Fleet Capacity and Volume, Road Bans, Permit Process, Area/Route Awareness, Hotsy, Working Alone Policy, Hazard Reporting, Time Sheets, Job Sheets, WHMIS
