Position Summary
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technician to lead and execute structured cabling, network infrastructure installations, and low-voltage system deployments across commercial environments. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship and documentation standards.
Technical & Installation
- Lead and execute installations of structured cabling (Cat6, fiber optics), pathways, conduit, racks, and network infrastructure in commercial environments.
- Terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber cable installations using industry-standard tools.
- Build, dress, and label equipment racks with precision and documentation discipline.
- Configure and deploy network devices, switches, PoE systems, firewalls, and related infrastructure.
- Install, troubleshoot, and commission low-voltage systems including CCTV, access control, intercoms, and wireless devices.
- Perform quality assurance testing and validation of system performance.
Troubleshooting & Service
- Diagnose complex issues across multi-system deployments, including network links, power delivery (PoE), connectivity issues, device failures, and configuration errors.
- Develop structured troubleshooting processes and document findings thoroughly for client reports.
Physical Installation & Tool Proficiency (Primary Focus)
- Perform and lead structured cabling installations (Cat6, Cat6A, fiber).
- Install EMT, PVC, and flexible conduit systems.
- Operate and maintain power tools including hammer drills, SDS rotary hammers, core drills, impact drivers, and band saws.
- Install anchors (wedge, sleeve, drop-in), strut systems, brackets, and supports.
- Build and mount wall racks and full-height equipment racks.
- Core drill through concrete and masonry safely and accurately.
- Install and secure outdoor enclosures (NEMA-rated cabinets).
- Pull and secure cable through ceilings, risers, mechanical spaces, and exterior pathways.
- Maintain jobsite safety and tool organization standards.
Systems & Infrastructure
- Terminate and certify copper cabling (Fluke or equivalent).
- Fusion splice or terminate fiber (preferred but not necessary).
- Install and configure network switches, PoE systems, and firewalls.
- Deploy and commission CCTV, access control, and intercom systems.
- Troubleshoot multi-layer issues (physical, power, IP, configuration).
- Build and dress racks to professional, service-ready standards.
Client & Site Coordination
- Act as the primary technical point of contact onsite, ensuring professional communication with clients, site supervisors, and sub-contractors.
- Coordinate site access, schedules, and installation plans with minimal disruption to facility operations.
- Provide clear updates to project managers and stakeholders.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Guide and support junior technicians in field best practices, installation standards, safety, and documentation.
- Promote continuous improvement in Helios technical standards and field procedures.
Documentation & Reporting
- Generate concise, professional work reports, service summaries, punch lists, and as-built documentation.
- Maintain labeling and documentation consistency for long-term serviceability.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 3-5 years of experience in structured cabling and low-voltage installations (commercial focus).
- CompTIA A+ and network plus certified
- Strong knowledge of Cat5e/6/6A cabling standards, fiber optics, pathway infrastructure, and conduit systems.
- Proven ability to build and dress racks to professional standards.
- Experience with testing and certifying cabling (Fluke or equivalent testers).
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot network hardware (switches, routers, PoE, firewalls).
- Proficiency with CCTV, access control, and other low-voltage systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate lifts/working at height.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
- Must have a clean driving record and Canadian driving history
Preferred But Not Necessary
- Certifications such as BICSI, RCDD/NCS, Fiber certification, or network certifications.
- Experience in commercial or industrial environments (retail, corporate, multi-site deployments).
- Ability to mentor and train junior staff.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
