In addition to doing preliminary testing, you are also needed to answer phones, check patients in and out, and do computer work including filing insurance.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and support within our optometry practice. This position involves assisting the optometrist during examinations, managing patient records, and ensuring a smooth front desk operation. A background in medical office settings or optical environments is highly desirable.
Duties
- Assist the optometrist during eye examinations by preparing patients and equipment.
- Manage patient flow and ensure timely appointments.
- Conduct preliminary tests, including visual acuity and pressure checks.
- Provide excellent customer service at the front desk, addressing patient inquiries and scheduling appointments.
- Handle sales transactions for optical products and services.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the office space and examination rooms.
- Support pediatric patients with care and comfort during their visits.
Skills
- Outstanding communication skills with a focus on patient care and customer service
- Excellent time management.
- Experience with practice management software, computer and organizational skills.
- Experience in a medical office or optical setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to optometry.
- Ability to perform retail sales functions effectively, including upselling optical products.
- Familiarity with front desk operations in a healthcare environment.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is a plus.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Some knowledge of insurance a plus.
Work hours are negotiable but generally are 9:00 am – 5:30 pm. Wage/salary is commensurate with experience.
