Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, our new Commissioning Lead position will develop and execute a plan to transition teams, programs, and services to the West Village facility in Lewis Estates neighbourhood in Edmonton.
Based out of Good Samaritan’s Head Office, this role serves as the lead clinical expert for the project. As the project’s liaison between key internal and external stakeholders, as applicable:
- Internal departments - Nursing, Human Resource, Information Technology, Finance, Hospitality, Procurement, Maintenance, etc.
- End users - residents, families, frontline staff.
- External partners - design/construction teams, licensing bodies, Infection Prevention & Control, Alberta Health, Assisted Living Alberta, etc.
this role ensures that clinical, operational, and resident-centered requirements are fully embedded into the facility design, construction decisions, and transition planning. Duties also include leading the relocation and go-live planning for residents, staff, equipment, and Head Office functions to ensure operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and continuity of care are maintained.
The Commissioning Lead contributes to the facility being built and transitioned in a manner that supports safe workflows, resident and client care requirements, staff effectiveness, and long-term operational efficiency, while identifying and escalating risks or required decisions to leadership as appropriate.
Education and Work Experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Alberta.
- A minimum of five (5) years clinical experience, preferably in a long term care setting, health care facility planning, or project management including planning and design experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
- Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in new site commissioning or working as a clinical liaison on a capital project is an asset.
- Understanding of capital project planning, design, and construction methods.
- Knowledge of best practices and standards applicable to Assisted Living Alberta, Capital Management, Capital Operations & Government Integration, and Planning & Design.
- Ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and convey information or transfer knowledge. Strong facilitation, communication and/or coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. Ability to influence and be client-focused in delivering the project.
- Ability to relay or explain complex issues or difficult situations.
- Experience with resolving concerns, investigations, and negotiations.
- Ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to providing quality services and keeping the end-user experience in mind throughout the project.
- Ability to lead change effectively.
- Strong writing skills to deliver briefing notes, progress reports, and presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Commissioning & Transition: Leads the development and execution of comprehensive transition plans for: resident moves, equipment location, and Head Office functions as well as sequencing, timelines, and dependencies with relocation and vendors with internal teams.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Acts as the primary point of contact between end-users, the project management team, and key internal teams.
- Design & Planning Review: Participates in discussions regarding project design, ensuring that drawings and specifications meet functional requirements and best practices.
- Equipment Planning: Acts as the liaison with the existing operational teams, Product Standards Committee, and vendors as part of the procurement, planning, and installation of Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E).
- Risk Mitigation & Issue Resolution: Identifies potential operational issues, risks, and impacts associated with construction, providing solutions that maintain resident safety and care standards, especially when working in occupied spaces.
- Collaboration: Meets with residents, families, and employees as required to share project information and gather input.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Collaborates on safety planning, particularly for construction activities in operational areas, ensuring compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) guidelines.
