Martushev Logging Ltd. is currently seeking a reliable and safety-focused Soil Tester to join our civil construction team on a project located in Lac La Biche, Alberta.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing field soil testing and supporting quality control activities to ensure earthworks, backfill, and compaction activities meet project specifications and required standards.
Position Details Location: Lac La Biche, Alberta
- Wage: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Schedule: 6 days on / 1 day off

- Key Responsibilities Perform field density and compaction testing on soil, aggregate, and backfill materials.
- Conduct moisture content testing and other field testing as required.
- Monitor excavation, backfill placement, lift thickness, and compaction activities.
- Verify that materials and completed work meet project specifications and quality requirements.
- Accurately document test locations, results, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit daily field testing and quality control reports.
- Communicate testing results and concerns promptly to supervisors and project management.
- Coordinate with equipment operators, foremen, supervisors, and project personnel regarding testing requirements.
- Identify non-conforming work and assist with coordinating retesting following corrective action.
- Maintain testing equipment in good working condition and ensure required calibration records are current.
- Follow all company safety policies, project requirements, and safe work procedures.
Qualifications
Previous experience with soil testing, materials testing, earthworks quality control, or civil construction is preferred.
- Knowledge of soil compaction, moisture-density relationships, aggregate materials, and earthworks construction practices is an asset.
- Experience using field density testing equipment is an asset.
- Ability to accurately complete field reports and maintain organized testing records.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with field crews and supervision.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.
- Must be physically capable of performing field work in varying weather and site conditions.
- Must be willing to work a 6 days on / 1 day off schedule.
