Position: CNC BORING MILL Machinist
Job Description:
The CNC Machine Set-up Operator position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines under the direction of the CNC Supervisor. The Machine Operator requires the ability to independently read and interpret CAD drawings, set-up sheets and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings as required by the work order specifications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
o Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience operating CNC boring mills in a heavy machining environment.
o Review and interpret engineering drawings, job travellers, work orders, specifications, sketches, and GD&T requirements prior to machining operations.
o Set up, program, and operate CNC boring mills with minimal supervision in a safety-focused manufacturing environment.
o Machine large-scale and complex components weighing up to 2000lbs while maintaining dimensional accuracy and geometric tolerances.
o Perform machining operations including boring, drilling, milling, facing, tapping, and fitting as required by production demands.
o Conduct complete machine setups, including tooling alignment, work holding verification, reference point establishment, and pre-machining inspections.
o Modify and optimize CNC programs, tool offsets, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters to achieve required tolerances, surface finishes, and cycle time efficiencies.
o Perform CNC program prove-outs and first-off inspections to validate machining accuracy and process reliability.
o Read, interpret, and edit manual CNC programs; experience with Heidenhain and Fanuc controls preferred.
o Maintain machining tolerances through continuous in-process inspections, offset corrections, and tooling adjustments.
o Utilize precision measuring instruments to inspect and record critical dimensions in accordance with quality standards.
o Ensure compliance with ISO standards, customer specifications, and internal quality management procedures.
o Identify, document, and report non-conformances; support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
o Maintain accurate production records, including part traceability, work order documentation, and material identification.
o Complete setup sheets and process documentation for new product approvals and production continuity.
o Identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to machining efficiency, tooling performance, and process optimization.
o Operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely for handling and positioning large components in coordination with rigging personnel.
o Perform routine machine inspections, preventive checks, and basic troubleshooting to maintain equipment reliability.
o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with 5S practices and housekeeping standards.
o Adhere to all company safety policies, PPE requirements, safe rigging procedures, and applicable CCOHS and WHMIS regulations.
o Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
o Hands-on experience with 5-axis gantry machining centers is considered a strong asset.
o Willingness to undergo training on additional CNC control systems and machining technologies as required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00-$50.00 per hour
